Looking at my webpage is the first step you have taken towards making a change in your life. Change isn’t easy; but it is safe to say it is generally for the better. Facing our fears and challenging the things that hold us back such as anxiety, depression and a lack of confidence can seem mountainous, but doing just that can give us back our locus of control, positivity and sense of wellbeing.
Sometimes we mask our problems with maladaptive behaviours, such as drinking a little too much because we say it helps us sleep or because it makes us feel calm or brave at the time. Sometimes we rationalise that we have felt this way for so long that it feels ‘normal’ and that letting go of our demons is more frightening than living with them, because our demons are familiar to us and we fear the unknown more. Perhaps we are in denial because we don’t want to admit we are struggling to cope or because we are worried about what people may think of us. Such maladaptive strategies keep the negative cycle going; they compound our situation and lack of self-worth.
